Help Darrell Get Back On His Feet

Hello, my name is Kendall and I am fundraising for a great guy and a longterm family friend, Darrell Morris. Darrell was released from Oklahoma prison after a 17 year incarceration in January. Upon his release, Darrell had almost no financial resources to establish himself with, so our family flew him to Virginia for rest and recoup. We love having Darrell here and he has contributed immensely to our family and our farm, but he wants more than anything to return to Oklahoma to rebuild his life. He has a daughter he has never met, but is on good terms with, and a community in Tishomingo, OK where he grew up.

Our country's incarceration system devastates people's lives- both while they are inside and when they are released with little to no support. Darrell was incarcerated in 2007 following an altercation with police in his home. Some who knew him before his arrest say he was a helpful member of his community, and during his incarceration Darrell kept in touch with his family, his daughter, and our extended family. Darrell even participated in a community gardening project in Charlottesville (via written letters) while he was incarcerated called Solitary Gardens.

Darrell will receive a small amount per month from disability due to a severe hand injury and several back and hip injuries, but it is barely enough to cover rent in his hometown. Our family is asking for support in our efforts to ensure that Darrell can reestablish himself safely in Oklahoma, and be the devoted and doting dad we know he will be!

Our goal is $5,000 to support Darrell with the move back to Oklahoma including securing a reliable car, monthly insurance payments, and furniture for a home in Tishomingo.
