Trans Empowerment Photography Project
Donation protected
The Trans Empowerment Photography Project is about empowering trans people, challenging how society views trans people, questioning cisnormative beauty standards, and most importantly celebrating the beauty, strength and pride of trans people.
The project will be photographed throughout the summer and I am hoping I can photograph somewhere between 40-60 trans people. I will be photographing trans women, non-binary people and trans men.
It is my hope that when the project is completed I will be be able to publish a book showcasing the photography and also show the work in a gallery. I will also be creating an online portfolio for the photographs so everyone can view them
About Me
My name is Sophia Banks. I am a trans woman woman and freelance photographer based in Toronto, Canada. I mostly photograph weddings and portraits. My portfolio can be seen here My fine art photography is represented by Canvas Gallery in Toronto, Canada and Galerie Sukra in Paris, France. I have been published in several art photography magazines.
The Perks To Donating
Well, for starters you will be helping me complete a photography project that means a lot to me personally. I am a visual artist and and I would be delighted to express myself as a trans woman and artist in a way that also empowers trans people and celebrates the wonderful beauty and pride of other trans people
I also have some giveaways. Any donation over $75 will receive a magazine of selected images signed by me.
Donations of $400 or more will receive a limited edition hardcover book featuring photos from the project and will be signed by me with a personal note. Limited to 10 copies.
To claim a perk simply send me an email to [email redacted] with your shipping address from the same email you made a donation to.
You can also choose to donate your copy of the magazine to someone else if you wish.
Where The Money Goes
I am hoping to raise $42000.00 for this project, if not I will scale back the project as necessary.
Most of the funds raised will go to renting camera lenses, lighting equipment and studio rental fees.
There will also be travel fees as I hope to travel to Montreal.
6% for the funds raised will go to GoFundMe and PayPal.
In addition to the above cost I also hope to compensate trans people who model in the project, specifically those who are low/no income. Poverty and unemployment among trans people is a serious issue. How much and who I can compensate will depend on how much money I raise.
Thanks for your time and generosity,
