Weathering the Storm

For the 10 members of the Keeton family, 2020 has been increasingly difficult.  Many have called it unprecedented. This year brought new meaning to the expression that When it Rains, It Pours.

Cassie, mother to five, has been unable to work for the past several months as doctors have worked to diagnose a new medical condition with numerous medical tests, procedures, and referrals to additional specialists. This past week was the most difficult yet, as we learned Cassie was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Biopsies were taken and surgery has been scheduled and infusions start this week. In the same day Cassie also learned her employer terminated her medical insurance effective at the end of the month. With the upcoming surgeries, and any chemotherapy it will surely be a strain on the family. Cassie's lack of income has greatly affected day to day life. In the midst of this, another deeply personal tragedy affected the family. Parker, the eldest son, suffered a compound fracture of the tibia further complicated by Compartmental Syndrome during a football game September 25, 2020. This required ambulance transport, lengthy surgery, and many months of therapy and follow up visits ahead of him and having complications already and potentially further surgeries.

This comes at an already challenging time for the family. Their home sustained damage during the Memorial Day storms of 2019, with some repairs still incomplete. When schools closed for the pandemic, it was determined infrastructure to run internet to the house was over $10,000. On top of this, the familys large medical deductible and out of pocket responsibilty leaves very large gaps. Once Cassie's insurance is gone the medical bills will add up very quickly.

Trying to juggle home repair, kid and mom repair and supplying internet for the kids to be able to complete assignments has proven to be a mountain of a task. The Keeton family is a very loving, humble and giving family. They are working to relocate and rebuild their church that closed suddenly in July. Just another one example of the trials they have a head of them.

We ask you to lift this family up for healing prayer. We know God will use these trials to ultimately bring about good. Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
