The breast cancer battle is personal and unique and yet there are thousands of women fighting the fight each year. This battle completely unravels your life in a way that only those who fight it can know. I don’t know about fighting through cancer, but what I do know is that this mom, friend, wife, daughter, aunt, and sister may look like every other woman whose fighting breast cancer, and her story may seem “typical”, but she is far from typical. Her battle is unique to her and to those who know and love her. Kathryn is an amazing woman who uniquely loves her husband Jesse of 25+ years and her two daughters Hannah and Emma. Her life is never dull with Jesse by her side. She approaches life with humor and a desire for fun and adventure. She is a fearless mom who guides her daughters to be women of strength and substance while keeping her crazy friends grounded with love and support. She is goofy beyond words, kindness is always her first action, she brings calmness in a crisis, and entertains with her clumsiness and wit. She is THE rock that HER rock depends on and the glue that keeps this wonderful family’s beautiful life together.

I struggle with asking for help as caring for my family is my biggest priority, but this diagnosis has already proven greater than us, and we still have such a long road ahead. The diagnosis came in late October and in the last 2 months, we have met with multiple physicians, completed a barrage of necessary testing, and underwent a biopsy followed by an oncoplastic lumpectomy with sentinel node removal. We are currently in week 2 of her fairly difficult 6-week recovery, only to get her healthy enough to start months of chemotherapy, radiation treatment and hormone therapy in the new year. We are trying to stay positive, especially for our girls, even though we have a long road ahead of us.
