Elizabeth was in the passenger seat of her own car when a horrific accident occurred. The result of this was her having her spleen removed, her aorta being damaged and repaired with pieces of her intestine. She had two fasciotomies in her leg as there was no blood flow, and she almost lost her leg. When she was admitted to the hospital she was not breathing independently and had to have the assistance of a ventilator. The staff in the ICU were unsure if she would wake up due to the extent of her injuries. She spent several days in the ICU before being transferred to a progressive step down unit. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her and is unable to work during this time. In addition to her medical bills being insurmountable, she is without a vehicle and is a single mother to a 13 year old girl receiving no child support from the father.
