Last night there was a storm which caused a sewage backup in our basement. Our ENTIRE basement flooded with about 2.5 inches of sewage. We have to replace baseboards, carpet, drywall, furniture, a hot water tank, and possibly our washer and dryer. But, our basement is not just a storage space: it is where our nieces room and bathroom are. Over the past year and a half we have spent quite a bit of money on making her comfortable and giving her the life she deserves. The possessions she has acquired since living with us are now destroyed. This is much more than a loss of physical possessions to her; it is a loss of the space she was able to call hers and hers alone. A space where she feels safe. It is our number one priority to get her bedroom and bathroom back into the condition it was in prior to the back up. Our insurance covers $10,000 worth of costs, which in our case unfortunately is only the cost of clean up, not repair or replacement of possessions. We don't usually ask for help. In fact, we commonly are the ones who help other people. Because of this, deciding to create this fundraiser was an extremely difficult decision. We have had a lot of unforseen expenses over the past few years; most recently being not even a month ago when a tree fell on our house. Any money that we don't use will be donated to other gofundme fundraisers. We do not plan on using it for anything other than trying to replace some of our possessions and repair our nieces living space. Any help, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated.
