This is Vinnie, my 10-year-old Pitbull. A sweet, goofy guy who is currently in a lot of discomfort. His normally playful puppylike exuberance is depleted. Earlier this year Vinnie was diagnosed with Neospora. He survived the 4 month treatment, barely, and not all dogs do, but it damaged his immune system. Due to this, Vinnie now has a bacterial infection that is antibiotic resistant. He has 2 forms of Staph (both are antibiotic resistant) 2 other bacteria and well as fungal infections. The only treatment to prevent sepsis is Amikacin, a daily injection, and requires weekly blood work monitor kidney function and office visits to prevent kidney failure. We will need to do this for 6-8 weeks, at a cost of $510 wk, minimum. Out of every possible diagnosis, this is the hardest to treat. Due to the treatment for the Neospora, we have depleted all the extra funds to treat him. He is everything to me, my soul dog, through thick and thin.
