Calvin's Fight For Sight
Donation protected
Our brave, youngest son, Calvin is suffering with Severe Ocular (eyes) Surface Disease with severe ocular surface problems including Trichiasis, cornea erosions, mucosal scarring and growing adhesions.
In 2012, Calvin became ill with Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (T.E.N.S) the fatal form of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. The video describes his miraculous survival but if you're unable to view it, please spare a moment of your time to visit SJS Awareness.org.uk
Calvin continues to suffer with the ongoing complications of T.E.N.S including:
*FATIGUE, JOINT ACHES & SPRAINS
*SKIN DSYPIGMENTATION & permanant scarring
*LOSS OF NAILS
*UROGENITAL COMPLICATIONS FROM SCARRING
*MOUTH PROBLEMS dry mouth, sore throats and ulcers
*DEPRESSION, anxiety & mood swings
*MEMORY LOSS
*OCULAR MORBIDITY leading to visual impairment & functional blindness.
T.E.N.S is a very rare illness and incredibly hard to manage.
Day to day life is a constant battle and funding is desperately needed to supply Calvin with the equipment he needs to maintain a 'normal' life and to continue his education at his school.
Calvin is struggling to adapt to the changes in his eyes and his general health and it is getting more difficult for him to continue doing normal everday things that we just take for granted.
He has to undergo several eye operations over the few years which will offer him some comfort and breathing space but is NOT a long-term solution. All the complications will come back causing him more pain and more deterioration of his eyes.
The wish list is an example of the equipment that would make an incredible difference to his life now and for the future.
More importantly, it'll give Calvin hope for a future he feels he doesnt have. It helps fund equipment needed to care for him at home and keep him comfortable during the worst times.
