Fiona’s Recovery

Hi, my name is Alli and my rescue dog, Fiona, has been in and out of the emergency vet since 9/6/22.

I hate asking for help, but I’m not willing to risk my dogs health and quality of life for anything. When Pittie Posse rescued Fiona, she was an absolute wreck - emaciated, unkept (long nails, horrible skin), and so full of worms that the vet thought she was pregnant. By the time she arrived in our home after living in foster care, she was a completely healthy dog. Fiona is the type of dog that has to stop and meet everyone she passes on the street. She doesn’t deserve what’s been happening to her. We were supposed to be her happy ending after a lot of suffering early on in life.

Fiona was first seen at MVMC the night of Sept 6th because she was vomiting blood and having diarrhea. Upon examination, nothing was seemingly wrong, but the vet’s recommended X-rays and further diagnostics. We opted to bring her home and do so at our vet instead, but when we woke up the next morning, her condition had worsened severely.

She had to be hospitalized from Sept 7th at 5:30am - Sept 8th around 10:00am. She was on an IV to help her rehydrate, and she received blood work, a fecal test, urinalysis, and X-rays, all of which indicated nothing was wrong. She was discharged when she was stable with meds and a new temporary diet. Everyone assumed and hoped it was just a one off thing.

We were absolutely devastated yesterday when Fiona began once again having diarrhea and vomiting. It started small, and we hoped we could prevent it from worsening with meds, but by mid afternoon she had lost appetite, was lethargic, and was having extremely bloody diarrhea again. We went back to MVMC last night, where the doctors said she needed to be hospitalized for another 24-48hrs. The high end of the estimate is $3,500.

We haven’t even had an opportunity to financially recover from our last trip to the emergency vet. I had just enough in the bank to make the down payment just to start her care last night ($1,750) Any amount you can give will go straight to Fiona’s vetting. She needs a couple extensive blood panels, an ultrasound, and a lot of fluids.
