Hi my name is Cassidy and I recently lost my grandmother as she passed on as well as my job as her caregiver. She was my best friend who raised me, she was basically my mother. And after taking care of me, I took care of her. I am currently homeless after losing our apartment and the section 8 inheritance not being secured when she died. We were unfortunately not properly presented with the paperwork for me to inherit her section 8 and we were under the impression everything needed was signed and in order. While taking care of her medical needs and other priorities as well as her going into at home hospice, it slipped through the cracks without knowing any signature was missing. I am currently seeking out help from legal aid of Marin but they haven’t got back to me. If anyone has any info for this type of situation and what I can do please let me know, it would be extremely helpful! My social worker for IHSS caregiving kindly said she would write a letter for proof of residence if that would help and I have neighbors and mail to prove that as well. But that is all I can do right now while dealing with her death. Its not really about the section 8 as much as just immediately having no home at all. I can move on without it but everyone I know is telling me I should speak up or do something about it. Since losing my home and job, I am trying to get back on my feet and in my situation cannot afford basic necessities and groceries. I was afraid to publicly ask for any help but I’m in a terrible position rn and anything helps.
