Help Shawn Heal

On Saturday, July 26th, Shawn was out doing what he loves most - riding through downtown Pensacola with his e-bike crew - when his night took a devastating turn. Shawn was hit by a car, resulting in severe injuries: a collapsed lung, a chest cavity fracture, a compound tibia break, a minor brain bleed, and significant trauma to his face.

Because of the quick action of his friends & fellow riders who were with him, first responders, and the team at our local hospital, Shawn was able to be stabilized & his bleeding and pain are being managed as well as one could expect at this time.

While he is still in critical condition, thanks to his team of doctors, nurses, and God- his vitals are not only stable at this time but he has also successfully received a couple blood transfusions, a tracheostomy, the first surgery on his leg to place a rod, and now a PEG has been placed (feeding tube to deliver nutrition for the next 6-8 weeks). His journey is far from over as one of the most crucial surgeries is up next: he requires an extensive and complex facial reconstruction that will need to take place in Jacksonville or UAB as soon as a bed becomes available and he’s stable enough for transport. He will also need additional leg surgeries and bone grafting.

And yet… even with all of this, Shawn is already showing signs of that unshakable fight in him. Less than 30 hours after the accident, he began opening his eyes, squeezing hands, and responding to stimuli from loved ones and his medical team. It’s no surprise to anyone who knows him though, Shawn is tough as nails. His strength and determination are just a major part of who he is.

But even more than that, at just 24 years old, Shawn has one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever come across. He’s the kind of person who will give you the shirt off his back without a second of hesitation. He is deeply loyal, endlessly kind, and generous to a fault. He’s the first to show up when someone needs help, no matter the time or distance. He lights up a room with his goofy sense of humor, and he loves SO fiercely — his family, his friends, his dogs, and every passion he pours himself into all hold a special spot in his heart. He works hard, plays harder, and never hesitates to lift others up. It’s just how he was raised. Now it’s time for us to show up for him & his family in the same ways.

Shawn’s road to recovery will be long, and from the unexpected medical expenses like surgeries and rehabilitation, to travel costs for his family, and help staying on top of regular monthly bills during this time, his family should not have to feel the financial burden of this. We want to help ease the weight on Shawn and his loved ones so they can focus on his road to recovery without any added stress & that when he comes home he is able to see and feel the support from his community.

If you’re able to donate, we are endlessly grateful. If you can’t, please consider sharing this or sending a prayer.. both are powerful and deeply appreciated.

Let’s show Shawn just how strong his community really is.
