Karen who is only 59 years old, was dealt an unfortunate hand last year and was diagnosed with a Stage IV glioblastoma multiforme. This is essentially an aggressive tumor that grows in your brain. Her symptoms started last February where she felt more confused and was having trouble focusing at work. The next couple of weeks were a whirlwind of scans, leading to a Biopsy, followed by an ICU stay in the hospital due to complications from the biopsy including significant swelling of her brain. She is a fighter and quickly graduated from the ICU to a regular hospital bed, then a rehabilitation stay and finally was able to come back home late last spring. She has since then been receiving several different types of chemotherapy, high doses of steroids and a laundry list of other medications to try to fight this monster of a cancer. She has been such a trooper thru all of this, maintaining a positive spirit and always looking for ways to give back to her community and family because she felt so grateful to still be here. The cancer at this time is finding ways to grow even on her current treatment and doctors and her family are trying everything to give her some relief and get her the help she needs. As you can imagine hospital bills are mounting and the cost of her care is just going to increase as time goes on. She will need more assistive equipment in her home, a caregiver to help her husband and children care for her and even modifications to her home to make it safe for her to stay there. This is such a helpless situation to be in and if we could atleast reduce their financial burden that would be a huge help to the family. Any little bit helps. Karen has always been selfless, giving, kind and put everyone’s needs infront of her own, it’s time we give back to her in any way we can.Organizer and beneficiary
