Hi everyone, my name is Mariah, and I’m creating this GoFundMe to support my close friend Maddie and her family as they fight to care for their sweet Frenchie, Bean.
This week, Bean was rushed to the emergency vet after suddenly experiencing extreme pain and losing the ability to walk on his back legs. He was diagnosed with IVDD and a severe spinal cord injury. Bean survived years of abuse before Maddie and her family rescued him almost a year ago, and he finally found the loving home he deserved. He does not deserve this pain, and he deserves every fighting chance...
At first, Bean was expected to undergo surgery after his MRI, but the specialists determined he is not a surgical candidate due to the severity of his spinal cord damage. Soon after, his condition progressed, and the neurology team confirmed a devastating diagnosis of Myelomalacia, leaving him paralyzed in his back legs and requiring close monitoring over the next several critical days. His doctors are still remaining hopeful — with strict crate rest for 4–6 weeks and at-home therapy in the months following, Bean has a chance to heal properly and may or may not regain the ability to walk again. Bean’s family is holding onto hope that he will.
Despite everything, Bean is fighting. But it has been an incredibly scary and emotional few days.
Last night, after briefly coming home, the anesthesia wore off and Bean became extremely stressed while trying to take his medications. He began breathing heavily and couldn’t calm down, and Bean’s family had to rush him back to the emergency vet. After tests and chest X-rays, the vets confirmed his lungs are clear, but he needed IV support, stronger pain management, and more time in the hospital to stabilize. They kept him to stay the night at BluePearl, where the team has been incredibly compassionate and attentive.
The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming for his family. His first emergency visit was nearly $6,000, and the last additional emergency trip costing $2,000, additional overnight stays at the emergency vet, tests, and medications have added thousands more. Caring for a paralyzed dog also comes with ongoing costs for supplies, medications, and specialized support.
All donations will go directly toward:
• Emergency vet bills
• Overnight hospitalization and monitoring
• Medications and pain management
• Crate rest supplies and home care essentials
• A potential wheelchair or mobility support if Bean stabilizes
• Any additional treatments he may need
If you’re able to donate, share, or send prayers for Bean, it would mean so much. ❤️
