Those of you who follow Phil’s story on Caring Bridge know that Phil’s leukemia has returned. Phil is falling into a smaller and smaller subset as his disease progresses — and his cancer has proven to be more aggressive and difficult to fight than his medical team and family had initially thought and hoped.
Katie and Mike have made the difficult decision to transfer Phil’s care to the Cincinnati Children’s hospital and are currently being transferred there via ambulance due to a recent spike in fever.
Katie and Mike will leave Phil’s younger brothers, Vinny and Robby, in Cleveland with family, and being apart is beyond difficult. But this family continues to fight to do what is medically best for Phil. Cincinnati Children’s is a larger hospital with a much larger oncology and transplant department, with resources that will become essential as Phil prepares for a bone marrow transplant once he reaches remission again.
This fight is a big one in every way. Katie and Mike will face extra expenses, both medical and those related to supporting a family unit split between two cities. To those who have already given to this family, thank you. Your generosity and support truly means the world to the Wayner family. If you are able to give to this family as they continue to fight this incomprehensible battle, thank you. Any gift is so helpful and so appreciated. But most of all, Katie and Mike are asking for your prayers. Let us storm heaven trusting that God hears us and will take care of this sweet little boy.
A note from Katie:
“As we transition to new care, we again ask for your prayers. Phil has been battling his leukemia since he was 3 (now 5.5). It feels so unfair that our little guy still has so much fight to go. We don’t know when we’ll be arriving back home in Cleveland, but we pray and hope that when we do the very hard stuff will be behind us and Phil will be many steps closer to his lifelong cure.”
