Emily Valeno was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia in the bone marrow in Spring of 2015. She has courageously gone through chemo and invasive treatments over the past 6 ½ years in hopes to push off an inevitable bone marrow transplant she would eventually have to endure.
Emily is a wife, mother, sister, and friend. More than anything, though, Emily is an extraordinary human being. She is the most cheerful, loving, and unbelievably strong person many have known. She always puts her family and friends before herself and finds ways to help others whenever she can.
The time has come for Emily to undergo an aggressive transplant of her bone marrow. In January of 2022 the process will entail a month-long stay in an intensive care unit at OHSU and at least six months of recovery where she will be unable to work, and will require 24 hour supervision to ensure no medical complications occur. This will not be an easy battle, but she is a fighter and continues to stay positive through the toughest of challenges.
The financial burden of all of this is, as you can imagine, affects the family immensely. Our goal with this GoFundMe is to lessen their financial strain and allow Emily to focus on healing and recovery rather than the medical bills that will continue to pile up. We will regularly provide updates on Emily’s recovery throughout this process.
Please share this post freely with others. Any contributions will be appreciated more than you know. Please send happy thoughts of peace and strength to Emily and her family during this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
**If you are curious to learn more about Emily’s condition, the exact medical terminology is Myeloproliferative disorder with a differential diagnosis that includes thrombocytopenia and primary myelofibrosis. With a high number of leukemia cells that is imminent transformation to acute leukemia.
