Hello, my name is Miu and I’m asking for financial help after an unexpected and frightening situation involving my housing and my paycheck.

I'm an immigrant living in a company-provided house in Lisbon and rely entirely on my monthly paycheck to cover basic living expenses. Today, I was informed that €200-€500 will be deducted from my next paycheck because I’m being charged for a door lock they claim I broke.

Here’s what actually happened:

I never received the new keys to my apartment, despite asking for them at least 3 times. The only way I could access my own home was by pushing the door very hard to get inside. Now, I’m being accused of breaking the lock and held financially responsible for it.

On top of this, I was told that “if they were me, they would start packing and look for another apartment.”

This comment made it very clear that my housing situation is at risk.

I live paycheck to paycheck, and I simply do not have €500 available. Losing that amount will directly affect my ability to:

Pay for food

Keep stable housing

I’m terrified of the real possibility of homelessness and hunger once this deduction goes through.

Next month is already financially strained for me due to a previously planned trip abroad that I cannot cancel without losing everything I already paid. This deduction would push me past what I can survive on.

I’m not asking for luxury or extras — I’m asking for help staying afloat during a moment that’s completely out of my control.
