Our Daughter's Story

Hi! My name is Dumitrel, and I'm fundraising for my daughter, Crina. At birth, due to medical negligence (a fact confirmed by an internal investigation), our daughter suffered a lack of oxygen for over 20 minutes. This led to a condition called hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) Grade 3, accompanied by cerebral palsy.

Most babies don't survive such trauma, but our daughter has proven she's a fighter and doesn't want to give up. We're not about to either, especially after the doctors at John Radcliffe Hospital suggested we consider disconnecting her from the machines that were keeping her alive. We firmly said no!

At two weeks old, an MRI confirmed that our baby suffered a brain injury that could affect her way of life. She can't swallow or manage her secretions, and there's a permanent risk of aspiration (inhaling saliva or anything in her mouth into her lungs). She can't eat normally by mouth, only through a nasogastric tube, which delivers food directly to her stomach.

After a while, we received another diagnosis: dystonia. Despite all these setbacks, we managed to find a treatment that's still in the trial phase, but given her problems, it's better to start as early as possible. Our daughter is now one year and two months old. There are people who have already undergone this treatment whose brain activity has improved by 30% — it's progress, no matter how small. This treatment can be repeated and can bring significant improvements.

There are only two machines in the world for this treatment: one in India and the other in Mexico. The treatment is extremely expensive, and the cost depends on the chosen location, but both options are costly. Currently, we're waiting for a response from both clinics to find out their earliest availability.

We're not giving up! She hasn't given up! From the first hours of her life, our daughter taught us how to fight, and now it's time to fight even harder. Any amount is welcome! We have a long journey ahead, so please don't feel pressured to donate a large sum; a small contribution, repeated once or twice a month, would be a real help.

Thank you all very much, and we'll keep you informed about our journey! Please, don't hesitate to ask us anything!
