Help Tyler Miles Fight a Rare Brain Cancer
Tyler Miles is 22 years old—a devoted father to his two-year-old son, Leo, and fiancé to Aleeha, his partner and best friend. Tyler and Aleeha are Christian, hardworking young parents doing everything they can to build a stable future for their family. Aleeha is a full-time nursing student, and Tyler was recently promoted to the sales team at work, taking steps toward a future in real estate sales.
Less than a year ago, Tyler began experiencing unexplained weight loss, severe headaches, vision changes, and irregular pain. Like many healthy 22-year-olds, he did not realize how serious the symptoms were at first.
By fall of 2025, his condition worsened. Tyler went to the emergency room multiple times without insurance and was turned away. He finally obtained Kaiser insurance by Thanksgiving, and doctors began extensive testing. What initially appeared to be Cushing’s Disease led to multiple MRIs and ultimately brain surgery in January 2026 to remove what was believed to be a benign tumor—with less than a 1% chance of cancer.
The pathology results were devastating.
Tyler’s tumor was cancerous.
⸻
Diagnosis: Germinoma
Tyler has been diagnosed with Germinoma, an extremely rare and aggressive malignant brain tumor that arises from germ cells that abnormally develop in the brain, often near the pituitary region. These tumors can grow rapidly and interfere with hormone regulation, vision, and neurological function.
Germinomas are often responsive to chemotherapy and radiation, but early and aggressive treatment is critical to prevent spread within the central nervous system.
⸻
Prognosis & Treatment Plan
Tyler’s prognosis is not fully clear at this time.
One key factor is whether the cancer has spread to his spinal fluid, which will be determined in early February. If it has not metastasized, outcomes may be more favorable; if it has, treatment will be longer and more complex.
The current treatment plan includes:
• Two aggressive chemotherapy medications given together
• At least four months of chemotherapy, with a longer protocol likely
• Additional brain surgery anticipated
• A significant course of radiation therapy expected
Because the tumor is located near the pituitary gland, radiation carries serious long-term risks, including hormone deficiencies, fatigue, cognitive changes, fertility challenges, and the potential need for lifelong hormone replacement.
At this time, Tyler is also approximately 80% legally blind due to pressure from the tumor. We are hopeful that his eyesight will return to an acceptable level of function following treatment.
Realistically, Tyler is expected to be medically disabled for a year or more.
⸻
Care Needs & Family Support
Due to the intensity of treatment, Tyler is anticipated to be quite ill for extended periods. Family members will rotate taking time off work to care for him throughout chemotherapy and recovery.
Our prayer is that Tyler will regain an acceptable level of functioning, be here to watch his son grow up, and one day resume his path toward a career in real estate sales.
⸻
Financial Reality & Breakdown of Expenses
Like most American families, Tyler and Aleeha live paycheck to paycheck and are far from wealthy. This diagnosis has created an overwhelming financial burden.
Current and expected costs include:
• $10,000+ in medical bills already owed from ER visits prior to insurance
• Out-of-pocket medical costs unknown, but expected to exceed $50,000–$100,000
• Monthly living expenses of approximately $5,000, including:
• Rent
• Childcare
• Car payment and gas
• Food and utilities
• Basic family necessities
We are unsure how to make this work—but we know we cannot do it alone.
