Grapefruit Juice: A Photo Book for Us

Hi there! I’m Chance, a 24-year-old photographer currently based in Los Angeles, CA. For the past couple of years, I’ve been working on a project called Grapefruit Juice. It’s my first ongoing monograph that delves into the raw emotions and realities that queer men of color inevitably face in our lonesome. Through portraits, archival images, and text, I explore the intersections of my identity, queer culture, romance, sex, friendships, and more.

As I’ve continued creating this body of work, I’ve been contemplating showing it physically. This is incredibly important to me because it’s a mission of mine to not only preserve images of myself throughout time, but also the people I’ve experienced time with. I aim to create a book that holds these memories, not just for myself but also for other queer men of color out there. Our experiences are uniquely beautiful—both in their joyful, loved-filled moments and in their challenging, colder moments. This book is a visual ode to our existence!

Your support will help me create the first copy of the book and assist with the creation of additional work within the project. The making of this photo book will also provide me with tangible material to use when pitching the project for further funding and potentially publication.
