Earlier this year, Owen traveled to Europe to visit family. When he returned to the United States he was unexpectedly detained by ICE, despite having lived here legally for decades. For months he has remained in an ICE detention center under harsh conditions while his case was reviewed. We have fought nonstop to prove his legal status, secure attorneys, and navigate a system that often refuses to see the humanity of the people trapped inside it.

This week, the final decision arrived. Owen is being deported.

This means Owen, his wife Diana, and their youngest daughter will have no choice but to leave the life they built in Columbia Missouri and begin again in the Netherlands. They are being forced to start completely from scratch in a country where they do not speak the language and have no foundation to stand on. They will need to find housing, secure employment, learn the language, understand new systems, and rebuild a sense of community far from everything they know and love.

They have to leave behind the majority of their belongings, their extended family, their jobs, and the incredible community that has held them through so many seasons of life. What they are facing is overwhelming mentally, emotionally, and financially.

We want to lighten that burden.
