Six months ago, Owen and his family experienced the unimaginable loss of his daughter, and now they’re facing another challenge.
Recently, Owen traveled back to Europe to visit some of his extended family. However, when he returned to the U.S., despite having legal status, he was unexpectedly detained by ICE (immigration enforcement) and is now being held in an ICE detention center until his case can be heard and his legal documents are processed. It will be weeks, at best, before his case can move forward.
In the meantime, where he’s being held, there is little space, no real beds, and the immigration process is long and slow. Phone calls are limited, with 15-minute calls costing more than $50. While his case is being processed, Owen’s family is left without his steady income. He has always worked tirelessly to provide for them, juggling multiple jobs, including property manager, handyman, and security at The Blue Note and Rose Music Hall.
Now his family is trying to keep afloat while also facing the overwhelming process of navigating the immigration court system and working to secure an attorney to help with the process of proving his legal status.
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Any help brings Owen’s family one step closer to stability, legal representation, and, most importantly, the chance to be together again. Your generosity helps carry them through this difficult moment and reminds them that they are not alone.
