BO-TOUGH!

On September 9, 2020, The Montvale Police Department learned that retired Lieutenant Don Boman #111, father of current Montvale Police Officer Andrew Boman #141, had been diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a rapid growing malignant brain tumor. This is a rare diagnosis that requires surgery, intense medical treatment and follow up care. While a complete prognosis can not be determined at this time, we unequivocally know that he and his family have a long road ahead and remain singularly focused on positivity and best case scenario.

Don is a loving husband to Jamie Boman, formerly a nurse with Hackensack University Medical Center, & devoted father to three adult children, as well as their family dog Munson. Those who know Don, or better known to most as “Bo”, can appreciate that he accepted the news of this magnitude with some reserve. Bo has always been, intensely committed to service of others, so he was not quickly accepting that he would now be in need of someone else’s care.

Don Boman is loyal almost to an error and steadfast in his commitment to family and friends. He raised his children in Montvale where he often volunteered as a coach and assisted in community activities. He was vehemently dedicated to the PBA and was a long serving delegate for our local branch. Bo assisted in annual fund raisers, local outreach, charity events for other neighborhoods and needy families, senior citizen events, special needs programs, and the 9/11 volunteer clean up in NYC following America’s tragic terrorist attack of 2001. His dedication to service is matched only by his deep passion for equality and the betterment of community. His leadership has been honorable and a strong example to us all.

As the Boman family enters into this unknown chapter of healing, The Montvale PBA is moving to raise funds to aid them in the journey. Due to the aggressive nature of this tumor, Bo has received life saving specialized care at a facility a significant distance from his home. The financial burden facing them in spite of insurance benefits can not be properly accounted at this time. Bo is managing his children’s college expenses, medical care, and housing during his lengthy treatment. We humbly appreciate everyone’s robust support as we aim to offer some assistance in this extraordinarily difficult experience.
