Let's get Jenny out of the Basement!
Donation protected
Boom. One bad day with an abusive boyfriend. My cousin, Jennifer Joiner, was shot in the face and right arm by Mitch Antil in October 2016.
This could happen to anyone you know. Jenny had a job. She lived in a beautiful townhome in Maple Grove MN. Unfortunately, the townhome was in Mitch's name, and Jenny cannot get a civil judgement for the home. Her company's medical insurance ended after 6 months and she is forced to live on SSDI and medicare.
Barely alive, she spent months in the hospital and rehab before being sent to an assisted living group home. She is still there, living in a small basement bedroom, sharing a non-handicapped accessible bathroom and calling for help through the heating vent. There is little social interaction. This situation costs $700/mo.
After much searching and working with her case worker, we have found a new home for Jenny. She will have a small one bedroom unit in a new assisted living facility. This is an impossible find. All her medical needs will be met. They have bus trips and social gatherings. There is a beautiful atrium in the center where Jenny could help tend the many plants (floral arranging and gardening are her passions). Cost- $905/mo.
Having worked all her life, Jenny has a decent Social Security Disability Income. However, the "system" penalizes her for this, having her pay for her medical insurance although she has medicare. This leaves her with less than $100/mo currently, with no room for the additional $200/mo.
There is a possibility of additional funding for the apartment next year. But we are refusing to let $200/month stand in the way of Jenny being able to relocate. I'm turning to you, my friends and relatives, to help. Please give any amount you are able.
