Warrior Hannah was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) July 30, 2022 at the age of 2. She was admitted immediately to Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, where she began a high dose of chemotherapy.
After the initial round, the doctors determined that the initial chemo was not the correct drug for her, and found a new drug, that at the time was so new there was not even a name for it. This drug with help from a few others got her to zero disease and we moved into transplant December 22, 2022.
Hannah had a wonderful summer 2023 and got to start pre-school in August 2023.
Just short of her 1-year transplant celebration, a small trace of AML cells where found in a routine bone marrow test and just after that a mass formed on the top of her head. The mass is known as a chloroma, or a group of AML cells outside of the blood and marrow.
Dec 15 2023, Hannah was readmitted and started another round of high dose chemo. The plan is for 4-5 rounds, spending 4-5 weeks in the hospital per round. This to get, what I refer to as “sticky and tricky”, cancer cells out of her body.
She continues to fight the disease with high spirts and a joyful smile with a long road ahead.
