Dear friends, family and caring souls,

I reach out to you with a heavy heart. Our daddy Robert, a beacon of love and strength has encountered an unexpected and challenging obstacle on his journey. He's not just Daddy to my siblings and I, he's a loving husband, Paw Paw to 11 wonderful grandchildren, a hard working diesel mechanic, Army veteran and the kind of person who touches countless hearts with his humor, generosity and warmth.

Just days ago, our world turned upside down when our otherwise healthy father was rushed to the hospital, struggling to catch his breath. The doctors found a mass within his artery, affecting the right side of his heart and extending into his left lung. Demanding immediate action, Robert was airlifted to Duke Medical University in Durham, NC to undergo life saving treatment.

Robert was evaluated by a team of doctors who are among the top experts in their fields. After extensive testing and evaluations, it was decided to perform emergency life altering surgery in order to save his life.

The operation includes artery and valve replacement and entails the intricate removal of the mass and, incredibly, his left lung.

As a working father and grandfather, the combination of medical expenses and inability to work places a massive financial burden on his shoulders, creating an unfathomable and daunting stress as he recovers from this incredible surgery.
