Owen’s Medical Fund

Donation protected
Ashley is a very close friend of mine and her 5 year old son Owen was just diagnosed with leukemia. Ashley has the biggest heart and is always there to help anyone when they need it. Unfortunately she will no longer be able to work so that she can care for Owen. This was not something they were prepared for and treatments and start immediately. If you have it in your heart to give, I know it will help ease the stress of such an overwhelming situation. Please keep them in your thoughts/prayers as they start this long journey to get Owen healthy again.

From Ashley “Our son Owen was diagnosed this weekend (1/22/23) with Pre B cell ALL (Acute lymphocytic leukemia). This is from way out of left field, because Owen has never even had the flu or a serious cold before in his whole 5 years almost 6 years of life. He is going to have his bone marrow biopsy and spinal tap (to see if the leukemia cells are in his spinal fluid) and have his port installed on 1/24/23. In order to do this he is having to have a platelet transfusion tonight as his are too low, and need to be a certain amount to safety have surgery. Because when your platelets are low your blood is unable to clot when you bleed for any reason. So it’s unsafe until he has higher levels. He will also be getting his first of many chemo treatments tomorrow too. As for his treatment we know it’s for 2-2 and 1/2 years, the first month of treatment is all that we know that is concrete as of now. He will have a weekly chemo treatment and then a daily high dose steroid given daily, for the first 4 weeks. After his first treatment he will get another spinal tap, then one again before we are able to leave the hospital. Then when the 4 weeks are completed he will get another spinal tap and bone marrow biopsy to see how he’s reacted to treatment and see what his status is. These last test determine the amount of treatments he gets per week, but he will be getting treatment at least weekly for the foreseeable future. My baby is in for a drastic change of life, because for everyone who’s had the chance to spend any amount of time with Owen knows he is always going from 0-100 always at full speed. Running jumping and climbing, being all things boy. Now he’s not able to do those things and is so confused as to why his body hurts for him to walk or when mommy and daddy pick him up that it hurts where we are holding him. He’s currently in patient at Children’s Methodist in San Antonio and we will be here till at least 2/4/23. Treatments will hopefully be able to be outpatient eventually, and at the clinic connected to children’s Methodist. The first will be in patient for him to be monitored. For now we are able to stay locally in San Antonio, we are hoping and praying this continues to be the case.”
