King House Fire
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Allison King and I am at a loss for words. I am going to do my best to capture the amount of heart ache and loss that our family is currently experiencing. We aren't the type of people who like to ask for help, especially my father in law. But I know that as 'strong' as we all feel, we can't do this alone and we need to turn to our community.
On Saturday Feb 22nd, what we thought was going to be a normal evening, flipped our entire lives upside down. My father in law and sister in laws home caught fire, and in minutes the home that my husband and his sisters grew up in, that our nieces grew up in, that my father in law built with his own two hands, was engulfed in flames. We are forever grateful that they were both able to exit the home with minor injuries along with their dog, but they, unfortunately lost the life of their 3 amazing cats in this tragedy.
Somehow the house is still standing, but everything inside is completed obliterated. This was not just a house, this was a home. A home full of memories that my father in law built it with his friends almost 50 years ago. Generations played and grew up in that home, shared laughs, learned new things, and made unforgettable memories that thankfully will last a lifetime.
My father in law, Clydie (George) and sister in law Kerri, aren't ones to ask for help. We weren't sure what to make the goal amount because we hate asking for help, so we set it to $2,000. But I know that amount is just pennies compared to all of the expenses that they are going to face. It is a feeling that you can't put into words, to walk through what was once your childhood home and feel like you are in an entirely different world. For what once felt like a safe place, a home, to be completely unrecognizable and feel like a strange land you've never visited before.
My father in law is a diabetic, and has a prosthetic leg. Thankfully he was wearing his prosthetic during the incident but he unfortunately lost his "spare" prosthetic, along with a few other accessible necessities and expensive medications.
We have been so grateful to everyone that has been dropping off food and clothes today (Feb 23rd), our family is forever grateful for those who have and continue to help carry us through this extremely difficult time.
We are asking for support with donations of any kind, in hopes to cover the costs of Kerri taking some time off work, as we help our family navigate through this. It is overwhelming to think of how much may be needed to get them back on their feet and rebuild their home.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. If you have any physical items that you would like to donate, please reach out to myself, Allison King, through Facebook messenger.
