My name is Dustin and I am raising money to help with my moms medical bills and expenses that are starting to stack up after she has been the in hospital for going on 9 days and unable to work.
Anyone who knows my mother knows she is the most selfless person and would do anything to help anyone out. Even if that means that she has to go without. So anything you are able to help out with, is much appreciated from my entire family. Funds raised will be used to help with her expenses such as mortgage, vehicle payment etc. on top of going towards medical bills that are quickly beginning to stack up outside of what insurance will cover.
On March 27 my mom called out of work due to feeling sick. After laying in bed for 2 days and things getting progressively worse, she was transported to the ER by ambulance on March 29th. Ever since she has been admitted, things have continued to get worse.
April 3rd: Her oxygen levels tanked, following her left lung collapsing. She was then moved to the ICU where chest tube was placed. Upon multiple tests and samples of fluids, it turns out not only did her left lung collapse but tests showed pneumonia in the right lung.
April 4th: Doctors hadn’t seen any improvement and things were actually beginning to get worse. The chest tube that was put in was kinked and not working properly. It was then removed and a second attempt of chest tube was placed. Later that day when moving her for a CT scan, the chest tube punctured the lung causing her stats to drop once again. They were able to get her stable and requested for a transfer to Palm Springs medical for emergency surgery to repair the lung.
April 5th: After receiving news there were no available beds in their ICU, they made the decision to perform surgery here at Hemet hospital. They went in to surgically place the chest tube for the 3rd attempt and getting her left lung to begin to inflate. Surgery was successful now we wait to see if the lung begins to heal. Later this evening her C02 levels in blood were low and showing early signs of kidney decline.
April 6th: Although surgery went well and the chest tube was placed correctly, in the morning still no improvements on left lung. In the meantime, they have discovered she has contracted MRSA. Chest X-ray later that day is now showing Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) which is defined as communication between bronchus and pleural cavity, resulting in persistent air leak for more than 48hrs on chest drain insertion.
Update: Although her oxygen levels have gone up closer to the normal range, her blood pressure continues to fluctuate and remain on the high side. The infection (MRSA) and pneumonia continue to spread. She now is showing pneumonia in both lungs. And the Bronchopleural fistula (BPF) still shows and poses a threat. Her C02 levels have increased which is good news and we should hope to see some kidney improvement in the days to come. Even with X-ray now showing the lung beginning to heal and re-inflate, the pneumonia and MRSA
are really taking a toll on her body and we aren’t out of the woods yet. She is currently stable but still remains critical. I will continue to update daily as things progress.
