Fox-Light

Donation protected

I'm fundraising for my debut play Fox-Light at The Hope Theatre 4-7 August 9pm.

For all those who have donated already, many thanks for your generosity. I’ve had to raise our target goal by £1,000 in order to factor in rising costs. This is due to rehearsal space and an extra week of rehearsal added on for cast. Your donations have helped fuel us in reach of our original target, I believe the new one can be met with ease.

Jay is an obsessive realist, Tess, an abstract expressionist.

When two painters meet under a moonlit sky, poetry, cigarettes and sex isn’t all they share. Fox-Light tells the tale of young lovers infatuated with each other’s beauty, charm and genitals. In an age where facades are clung onto for dear life, Jay and Tess must break through the masks of society in order to see what lies beneath, but they soon find that behind the beautiful tapestry, lies the woven mess.

‘There is a place to get to, a place beyond all of this. I was promised that’.

Caught in a world of fame and jealousy, this tar-black dramedy explores the form in which love disguises itself,  the addictive side of loving and the choice that truth brings. Fox-Light isn’t for the weak hearted nor the self-righteous, packed full of gut wrenching honesty and brutal humour, it demands the truth and asks the all important question, ‘How do I love in the way I know I’m capable of?

‘I love you.

Out of fear?

Out of love.

Aren’t you f**king lucky.'

It will be put on at The Hope Theatre from 4-7 August. Now they've agreed to host it, I have to supply the goods!

I think the world of theatre and the world in general can do with more stories from the heart. The deeply personal becomes the wholly universal when it is shared. I think that's what Fox-Light is becoming; an archetypal love story.

I will also be uploading videos shortly, trailers, interviews etc. and will have lots of content leading up to the production so the progress can be followed easily and creatively.

The money will be spent primarily on supporting the cast and director Simon Usher (RSC, National, Royal Court), but a full breakdown is available below.

... I'm going to need a bigger fundraiser.

With warmth,

Barnaby Tobias.
