Help save Aida, living on a single ventricle

On April 10th 2010, I gave birth to twin daughters Aida Faith Dupigny and Akira Hope Dupigny. This was one of the most wonderful feelings ever experienced.

But it was not until 13th April, 2010 during a routine examination of Aida, a heart murmur was discovered. She was kept at the hospital under observation and was discharged the following day.

We thought that all was well…………. we were wrong, approximately 3 weeks later Aida was readmitted to the hospital. Things started to take a different turn; Aida was slowly losing her strength. On June 2nd 2010 she went into cardiac distress and was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Martinique. She was examined by a team of specialists, and was diagnosed with a cyanotic Congenital Heart disease (Severe Ebstein’s Anomaly, Pulmonary Atresia). The doctor told us there’s no hope, that our little daughter would be dead within 4 days. His words were “I know what I’m saying, I wish there was something else I could say to you, she is not going to make it so you should move on with your lives together with your other daughter (Akira Hope Dupigny).

That’s the worst news one could ever receive. With pain on the inside and tear-filled eyes, my husband and I flew back home to Dominica on June 4th 2010 with our precious jewel very devastated.

Aida is destined to live. She is now 11 and celebrated her 11th birthday on April 10th, 2021.

Visits to the paediatrician (Dr. Alleyne Sorhaindo) are every 6 months. She is dependent on daily doses of aspirin 81mg. Her oxygen saturations are usually between 82-90% in room air.

Aida sees a cardiologist yearly at Boston Children’s Hospital. Her last trip July, 2019 reveals that the left side of the heart is now a bit enlarged and they may need to proceed with Fontan surgery at some point to improve her oxygen saturation and blood flow.

The estimated cost we would need is US$190,000.00 for a combination of services to correct her abnormality to include airfare to Boston, accommodation, transportation and subsistence.

We are therefore seeking your support in helping us to reach this target so that Aida can remain with us and grow up to be the wonderful promise that she is.
