Brandy is 37 years old from Detroit Michigan. Brandy was diagnosed at 9 with scoliosis and then fused T1-T6 in 1993. Despite her medical diagnoses she was an athlete and went on to receive a full scholarship to play basketball for Schoolcraft College. She then had complications from her spine twisting and curving more and had those rods removed in 2004. After the second fusion it was in her best interest not to play college basketball and coached girls Middle School basketball in Howell, MI and then J.V. girls coach in Redford MI. In 2006 she moved to Las vegas as it was a growing city and wanted to pursue more opportunities. In 2008 she had a daughter even though was told by doctors that carrying a child would be too much on her spine and was a high risk pregnancy. Prior to becoming pregnant she was diagnosed with spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis, kyphosis, spina bifida and Degenerative disk disease. Brandy applied for social security at age 28 in Nevada at this point and was denied. .  She continued to try to work and live a normal life even though the pain was constant. In February of 2018  her spine had degenerated on its own and had Pars defect, which means her spine broke on its own, L5-S1. Legs were greatly affected and was losing feeling in both feet and pain was at its worst. One full disk was completely gone and was replaced with bone and metal. Fusion  was the only thing that could be done. Surgery was done June 30 2018.  Brandy applied again for social security disability with representation in April 2018. She was denied in August. An appeal was made and was informed it could take 12-14 months to get a decision. She has discovered the "black hole" of the government system and even though working for 21 years is only getting medicaid and food from welfare. She has been denied help from Social services and every single organization she has been referred to. Brandy has been a cocktail server and bartender in Las Vegas for 13 years. She has been an employee at the Stratosphere for the past 5 years  and won't be able to continue that career. The surgery alone is a 1 year recovery and is waiting to have bone growth to make sure the fusion took.  She has contacted every nevada politician and still can't get any type of financial help from the government. The threat of homelessness looms large. In order to keep a roof over her head and a car to get her and her daughter around she needs financial help. She has tried everything possible to keep her head above water and nothing has worked in her favor. We are asking for your help to raise money to allow her to pay rent, utilities and care for her daughter. We also want to make awareness that this situation is completely unfair to people like her who are under 50 and disabled. Thank you
