Helping Hanna

In March of 2021 Hanna Woltz (27) was diagnosed with Stage 1 Endometrial Cancer. After dealing with pain which would not subside, Hanna decided it was time to go to Urgent Care to get blood work and a check up. An ultrasound revealed a tumor in her uterus, and from there she started extensive testing to determine what it was. Hanna admitted herself into the hospital after her symptoms worsened and had to have multiple blood transfusions from massive, rapid blood loss. Blood tests, MRIs, and a biopsy later, she was diagnosed with cancer.

Hanna was 3000 miles away from any family or friends while she went through these first steps, facing hard decisions, and without health care coverage. The doctors and crisis nurses helped her through her decisions while her family organized their trip out west to be with her.

Ultimately it was decided that Hanna would have a full hysterectomy to eliminate the worry of anything spreading or coming back in the future. That surgery is planned tentatively for the second week of April, which feels like forever from now.

Hanna (like many) lost her health care coverage due to lack of work in 2020. Hanna’s 5 day stay in the hospital with tests totaled to $75,000+. No one should have to think about planning their next move around the cost of a procedure.

Even with family help, the costs incurred for her hospital stay, along with the costs of upcoming hysterectomy will be more than she can bear. Hanna was able to secure a form of health insurance to help with the cost of the surgery, but with the high monthly payments, high deductibles, and monthly expenses she is looking at being handed $115,000+ worth of debt because of this diagnosis.

If you know Hanna, you know that she is a very special person to a lot of people. The outpour of support and love at the announcement moved her to tears for many days.

Chances are Hanna’s helped you with one of her varying talents, always wearing a smile on her face. She is the unifier in a room of people, bringing together different friends, families, and coworkers. She always has everyone’s best interest in mind and goes out of her way to make people feel noticed, loved, and special. You can always count on her wit and upbeat energy to get the party started, and keep it going. She wants everyone to succeed and have a good time while doing it.

I’ve always joked that she could make friends with anyone at anytime. Full of life, smart, motivated, but dealt a crappy hand.

Hanna is a very loved friend, sister, daughter, cousin, co-worker, and granddaughter. It's so easy to feel helpless as an onlooker in a time like this. We all feel it. Your continued words of encouragement and support do not go unnoticed by Hanna. She is taking it day by day and generally in good spirits for the situation she is in. We are grateful that it was caught when it was, and that the surgery should eradicate any worries for the future. Thank you all for your continued support.

We are asking for help for Hanna’s expenses from her point of finding out to while she recovers from her surgery (12-14 weeks), along with funds to help her with out of pocket payments for the upcoming appointments and procedures.

The remainder of the money will go towards her hospital bills, both past and future incurring. It is with humble gratitude that Hanna sends her sincerest thank you for any support.  She'll be the life of the party again before you know it.
