Medical expenses
Hello, my name is Keydrek Holmes and I am the husband of Mrs. Sandra Holmes. For over 25 years, Sandra has been my partner in life. She has given me, our family, and I believe, our community and the world, so many beautiful gifts. To know Sandra, is a true blessing in of itself.
On March 24th, 2024, my wife and the mother of our two amazing sons, Terrell Holmes (18, freshman at East Georgia College) and Keyondrek Holmes (13, 7th grader) had a series of debilitating strokes that has left her in critical care for more than 20 days.
She is a fighter, and always has been. When she first arrived at the hospital for care, conscious and breathing, things quickly took a turn for the worst. Doctors believed after their assessment, that she would not breathe on her own again. However, Sandra is fighting to this day, though she was placed on a ventilator, has begun breathing on her own, to some degree.
Sandra, has been a nurse since 1995 and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, GA for over 12 years, continues to fight, just as she has fought in support of and helped so many of our community members and their families through dark and unknown times.
Sandra, on her own, is essential. However, her dedication to nursing and caring for others, while considered essential work, will not be able to cover her care. Unfortunately, due to the strokes and the severity of her condition, the love of my life has had to have one of her arms amputated. Myself and our family still do not know the final prognosis but we remain hopeful and prayerful for her recovery.
On Sandra’s behalf, myself, my sons, and the rest of our most close friends and family, we are reaching out to community through a Go Fund Me, to garner support as we continue to pay for not only Sandra’s care but also the continued needs of our household and family expenses. We know many families are struggling right now to make ends meet; that experience is unfortunately, too common across our country these days. However, my heart believes that it was important to act on my faith; faith in God and faith in the kindness, generosity, and compassion of our community, to reach out and ask for a helping hand in ensuring a wife, a mother, a nurse, and a friend, as bright and wonderful as Sandra, could have support in focusing on her recovery, rather than the cost of her care.
We understand if you are not able to give monetarily today but if it is not too much to ask, we do hope that our community keeps Sandra on our minds, and her spirit in our hearts.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to listen to our family during our time of need. Have a wonderful and blessed day.
