My Name is Annie, I’m fundraising for my cousin, Carlee and her husband Sid.
For the last 6 months Sid has been fighting Sternal Osteomylitis, a rare bone infection. In November he went in for a routine Rotator Cuff surgery. 2 weeks later he started experiencing severe pain in his clavicle. After 5 visits to the ER and several doctor visits they discovered the infection. Doctors were baffled as this infection only affects 1% of individuals.
Sid underwent surgery the day after Christmas to have the infection washed out. One week later the incision burst and landed Sid at the University of Utah hospital for yet another surgery. When it was time to go home, he was given a PICC line for daily antibiotic infusions and a wound vac for the wound on his chest. Throughout the winter he had daily home health nurses and weekly doctor visits.
There have been many ups and downs throughout this trying period. February his PICC line was removed due to a 6-inch blood clot that developed around the PICC line. In the beginning of April another PICC line was placed to continue fighting the Osteomylitis as it has continued to spread throughout his chest cavity and other collar bone. At this point he is now being treated 5 days a week with Hyerbarics. Currently, it has not stopped the spreading infection, he is set for May 1 to meet with the Thoracic team to perform another surgery and wash out the infection. At this point it is uncertain whether they will have to remove bone.
Sid and Carlee have truly been tested during this time. Sid has not been able to work since the middle of November. The future is still unknown during this time.
Sid is an electrician at Cache Valley Electric and is the main source of income. Carlee is doing her best to support the family. This GoFundMe is to aid Sid, Carlee, Dylan, Jack, and Chase during this time. Between the loss of income, medical costs, transportation to the University of Utah, and other expenses that will occur during this difficult time.
