Help Jerry Olivier fight ALS
Donation protected
Help me rally friends, family, and community to support Jerry Olivier in the aftermath of his shocking ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) diagnosis. The sad reality of this relentless disease is that it incapacitates your muscles, leaving you trapped in a body that is no longer able to speak, eat, move, or breathe. The condition is 100% fatal, has few treatments to improve quality of life, and places a heavy financial burden on the family.
If you are lucky to know Jerry Olivier, age 59, of Sioux Falls, SD, you would know that he always puts the needs of others first. For the last 20 years he has been working as the accountant at Minnehaha Country Club. For the last several years he has held a second evening job to allow his wife to stay home with the kids, enabling them to pursue their love of dance and sport. His love for his family has always been his motivation. Seeing him well up with tears as he watched his daughter dance in the Nutcracker last December made it clear to me that all the hard work was worth it.
Jerry has been married to his wife Krista Olivier for 21 years, who recently started working in the school district as an aide. They have 2 wonderful kids, Reagan (a junior at Lincoln) and Ian (a freshman), both in the Spanish Immersion Program. They are active members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Jerry’s ALS diagnosis means their family life will have dramatic changes ahead. It is an unrelenting disease where the average life expectancy is 2-5 years. He is wanting to work as long as he is physically able but at some point the disease progression will prevent him from doing so. As he endures the physical changes of the disease they will need prayers but also the financial support for medical care and adaptive devices including wheelchair, lifts, an accessible vehicle, and other major home modifications given their split-level home. Friends have also mentioned that they want a way to help the Olivier family make memories. So they would like to have them use some of the funds raised to spend time together while Jerry still has his mobility.
It wasn’t that long ago when many of us were participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds for ALS research. We continue to pray for progress toward a cure for this disease.
Please do not hold Jerry’s love for the Minnesota Vikings against him when considering a donation. At least his wife Krista is a Packers fan.
Lets rally together to lift up the Olivier family!
Thank you!
