UPDATE 11/13/20 COVID really mixed things up for a lot of us, Hellen included! Her semesters got postponed and rearranged and everything in between! She will be starting her next semester in the next couple of days (they didn't get much notice again!). Her family recently had to pay for funeral expenses for Hellen's uncle, so they are finding it difficult to come up with the money for school. Can we get $200 to send to Hellen as she continues to push through the struggles/hardships caused by this pandemic? Even sharing her story helps so much!
UPDATE 8/4/20 Hellen just got notice this afternoon that her school is opening back up on Monday for her final semester (the Spring semester was cancelled due to COVID-19)! She wasn't fully expecting this, and she needs our help! Her family is able to pay only part of her school fees, given the short notice. Can we raise $200 in just a few days?? I know times are tough for a lot of you, and I completely understand if you're not able to donate. It's such a heavy time for a lot of us, but I wanted to ask for support, just in case (even if that means sharing her story!).UPDATE 12/2/19 Hellen is headed back to school after break on 12/16/19. That means we have 2 weeks to help raise some funds! Hellen has about half of what she needs, but is hoping for that little extra from us! With Giving Tuesday approaching, considering donating a few dollars to Hellen so she can finish and get her COLLEGE DEGREE! UPDATE 7/9/19 Hellen is about to begin her FINAL YEAR OF COLLEGE! Can you believe it?! It's amazing to think I met her when she was in my junior high class! She has really come so far and is so grateful to everyone who has been able to help support her through this journey! She needs $350 for this next semester by the end of the month. Let's do this! UPDATE 3/16/19 Hellen is almost done with her 2nd year of college! She just needs $200 for this next semester, then she'll be ready for her FINAL YEAR OF COLLEGE!! Can you believe it?! When I left Ghana, she had just finished Junior High! It's amazing to see how far she has come and how far she will go!--------------------------------- UPDATE 11/28/18 Do you have some cash leftover after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday? Hellen just needs $100 extra (she already has $100) for this upcoming semester, because she will be starting her teaching practice. Can we raise it in 3 weeks?! --------------------------------------- I'm sure you've heard about Hellen before. She was one of my students while I was teaching in Ghana during my Peace Corps adventure. We all helped her pay her school fees for high school. Thank you to everyone who helped/supported with that! Now, she has graduated high school and has been accepted into TWO colleges. A nursing training college and a teacher training college. This is such a joyous occasion, but unforunately it comes with a price. I just got off the phone with Hellen, and she was in tears. She was telling me this good news, but also the struggle she's dealing with. Hellen said she would love to attend the nursing training college, but it costs twice as much as the teaching training college. So, she has decided to go through the process to attend the teaching training college. She told me she had some money to help pay for the teaching training college, but recently, her mother has fallen sick, and the money went towards her medical bills. Hellen has been working tirelessly to help her mother during this difficult time. This has put a lot of stress and pressure on her. She is asking for prayers for her mother. Hellen is going through a lot, and she needs our help. I told her, while trying to fight back tears myself, that I would talk with my friends and family to see what we can do. The teacher training college will cost about $750. This will cover her admission fees along with a few other supplies she needs.
