Help Me Become A Doctor

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Jonathan Ruiz. Before I let you know a bit about myself, I would like to tell you that all your donations will help me with the cost of tuition for the UC Davis School of Medicine Postbaccalaureate Program. It is a one-year program that is designed to help educationally and/or socio-economically disadvantaged students become more competitive applicants for medical school. I will be starting the program in September and along with your help I hope to raise a portion to help me alleviate some of the cost of the tuition.

Growing up in an under-resourced community exposed me to the hardships patients struggle through with health care. I myself experienced these struggles first hand with my family. One of the many struggles my family and I had to hurdle over constantly were language barriers. Without any Spanish speaking physician in my community clinic, I found myself at young age translating and explaining for both my parents and doctors to assure my parents received a better understanding of their health. Going through experiences like this and noticing the lack of Latino doctors in my community ignited my path to medicine. It inspired me to help bridge this gap and return to communities similar to mine to provide quality health care for those in need.

Thanks to strong support systems like the Fulfillment Fund and inspiring mentors, I was able to enroll and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from UCLA. Throughout college I continued to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor by involving myself in medical volunteer opportunities. One of the many places I volunteered at and am passionate about is the Venice Family Clinic. Volunteering at the Venice Family Clinic allowed me to continue my mission of providing quality health care to communities like the ones I grew up in. There I was able to help provide quality and affordable health care to low-income, uninsured and homeless families. I would also help with the rehabilitation of patients struggling with substance abuse.

Currently, I continue to volunteer at the Venice Family Clinic. I also work part-time at a research lab at UCLA that focuses on digestive diseases. In addition, I started working with my dad in construction to help save up for the UC Davis School of Medicine Postbaccalaureate Program. Although I have been saving up, I still do not come near the total estimated cost of $26,000 for the program. I would like to please ask for your support to help me reach this cost. I greatly appreciate any amount of donations because your contribution will help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a doctor and being part of the program. I am grateful, and I thank you all so much in advance for supporting me in my medical school journey! I promise to provide a hand written thank you card expressing my gratitude to each donor.  I also promise to keep you all updated and bring you along in this journey with me!

Please share this page with your family and friends who you believe would be interested in helping me.

Thank you so much!!!
