On Wednesday, November 3rd, a terrible fire engulfed the unit two doors from the condo in which my parents live in Long Beach, California.

From the article, "... no alarms went off to warn residents. James-Jolly said two neighbors came around to warn other resident of the fire." The referenced good neighbors include my Dad, a hero whose selflessness helped ensure the safety of his friends in the Stoneybrook building.

 

Now, because of the fire, my parents are displaced - no place to live. For up to six months.

 

 

 

 

This is an unmanageable financial burden for my family. My parents are disabled and, currently, one income supports the mortgage payment for the condo and my own apartment rent. Our resources are exhausted and we don't know where to turn. We are dependent on the generosity of those reading this for help with money or, maybe more critically, a place for two adults and a dog to stay while my parents' unit is being rehabilitated.

All funds received from this will go directly to defraying the costs of my parents' temporary housing. At the moment, they are unable to even access the unit for the foreseeable future to collect their items; so they are completely out, no home and few belongings, and nearly no financial resources to keep them afloat. We need the money primarily to achieve the peace of mind that might come from my parents - and me! - knowing that their housing and security is ensured during the recovery from this awful event.
