Ariel wanted to be a swimmer. She was ecstatic when she made the school team and never missed a practice. Seven months, three hip sprains, two knee strains, one diagnosis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and a medical prognosis that includes corrective mandibular surgery within in the next few months, Ariel is simply hoping this degenerative disease won’t keep her from walking the stage at her college graduation. It breaks my heart to think how often my daughter hid her pain and insisted she was fine during the rapid decline of my own health over the last few years.
Our family is currently covered by the insurance I have access to only through my short-term disability coverage that will be ending in May. Our family schedule includes multiple doctor visits or procedures every week, each one with a co-pay or patient portion that is due.
Immediate, upcoming expenses include travel expenses to various specialists from San Antonio to Dallas, a scheduled MRI with another to follow, assessment and preparation for maxillofacial surgery, as well as follow ups for all of these visits. We have been surviving day by day, managing our treatment visit by visit, but we have come to a point where we need help. Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
