One Day At a Time

I along with my brother and sisters are starting this fundraiser on behalf of our parents Ruben Velez and Edna Velez. In 2014 mom was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple negative Metastatic Ductile Carcinoma. For the past year our mom has been a trooper while going through 3 surgeries, several months of strong chemotherapy, and daily radiation treatments. For those of you who have had to deal with any type of cancer you know what it does to not only your body but your mind. There were days when our mom was so sick and tired she would say she was ready to be with her Savior Jesus Christ and her mom and dad in heaven. She underwent a 50lb weight loss, lost all her hair, and was very weak. Thankfully our mom is a survivor and is on the road to recovery. This battle will never be over and she will have to have constant medical follow-ups to ensure the cancer isn’t back. In the midst of our mom’s recovery our family was tested yet again by another tragedy. Our Dad, Ruben Velez was air lifted from the hospital in Sonora, Tx to Shannon Hospital located in San Angelo, Tx. on August 16th, our Dad had suffered from a heart attack. Our rock, our Huckleberry, lay in the ER with a heartbeat of 20 beats per minute and with an extremely low blood pressure. Our Dad was taken into emergency surgery where they placed a temporary pacemaker to help his heart continue beating. Within 24 hours our Dad was transferred to St. David’s in Austin, Tx where a permanent Biventricular Pacemaker with an internal defibrillator device was placed in his chest. Currently our parents are taking it day by day. Both are on the road to recovery but the financial situation has taken a heavy toll on our family. Our Dad had just started a new job 1 month before his heart attack and he has no benefits from his company. Our mom hasn’t been able to return to work because she has a hard time getting around still. We are asking for any donation to help our parents out. They have always been there for my brother, myself, and my sisters and this is something we would like to do to try and relieve some of the huge stressors they have in their path. No donation is too small. Please continue to keep them in your prayers and may God Bless You.
