I feel awkward setting up this Go Fund Me request, as it is for my dad and myself, but our situation is desperate, and I honestly don't know what else to do. A couple of my friends suggested I do a Go Fund Me campaign, so that is what I have done.
For the past four years I have been the sole caregiver for my dad, and in the state of Kansas, family caregivers are not paid, so we have had to live on my dad's fixed income.
The past several months have been tough for us, and unfortunately I have fallen behind on a couple of major bills. We have just barely been making it through each month with the regular bills and household finances; dealing with all that, plus dad's new health issues has left me exhausted both physically and emotionally.
I've had to place my dad into a long-term care facility and we are currently waiting on his Medicaid to be approved; once he is approved, they will be taking all his money. I have started the process of looking for a job, but I'm not sure how long that will take, or what I will be earning. And once I do get a job, that money will be going towards the household bills and insurance and the costs of day to day living, etc.
The primary reason for this Go Fund Me request is because I need help in paying our property taxes; they are seriously delinquent, and if I don't find a way to pay them off, or at least a major portion of what we owe, they will foreclose on the house. The thought of losing our home absolutely terrifies me – I say our home, because even though the deed has been in my name for years, to me this house will always be dad's. It would absolutely break my heart to lose it.
The amount we owe on the taxes is approximately $3,500. A small portion was paid on the taxes not too long ago, but with it being a new year, they are coming due again. I am struggling to get back on my feet financially and having the taxes taken care of would be a huge burden off my shoulders. If there is any extra money raised, I would put that towards some other overdue bills.
The sooner I am able to raise the money, the better; I hope to be able to do it within two to three weeks. Having to put my dad into a long term care facility and adjusting to the fact that he probably won't be coming home again, plus dealing with the very real threat of losing our home has become almost more than I can handle; I am stressed out all the time. Any help, and I mean any help we could get, would be appreciated more than you know.
