Clover is the love of my life, my soul dog, and I’ve done everything I can for him.

We have had an incredibly stressful two weeks as a family. My sister’s dog unexpectedly got severely ill and declined rapidly, and ultimately passed away unexpectedly. It was heartbreaking.

We held a funeral for her on Sunday, and that night, Clover’s breathing suddenly looked too quick for resting. So Monday morning, I took him to the vet and asked for a chest x-ray. I felt like something was wrong.

He got diagnosed with the early stages of congestive heart failure. I was in shock and heartbroken. I had been giving him his Vetmedin religiously for a year since he got diagnosed with a heart murmur, so I couldn’t believe it.

I was distraught and didn’t get all the info I needed, so we returned to Pet Doctor 911 that evening to ask all the questions. She said he looked good, but told us the possibilities and what she usually sees with the disease. Some dogs live for a good while after diagnosis. It’s really dependent on the dog and how they respond to treatment.

Tuesday morning I went back to the vet after he had a coughing fit. They gave him diuretic injection and said to monitor him. He showed improvement.

Then, Tuesday night he seemed to be breathing too fast so we went to the hospital. They put him in an oxygen cage and recommended he stay overnight.

It’s been 12 hours with oxygen cage and diuretic and they say he seems to be doing better and once they can stabilize him and find the right meds, he’ll be able to come back home.

With the heart, it’s always unpredictable as the vet said, but she believes he will be okay and ranked his prognosis as fair. It’s congestive heart failure, but it’s not an immediate death sentence and we’ve seen people have their dogs for years after. I don’t want to hold my breath and expect that, but I need him to be here at least a little longer. My boyfriend is out of town with his friend on a business trip, and he’s coming back early because of this news, but unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with this emotional struggle without him. I’m fortunate to have had my sister along the way, helping emotionally. In the very least, I needed Clover to be here until my boyfriend got back.

We are hoping two days in the hospital is the most he’ll need and he will be stable after that. First vet visit was $480, second was $100, third was $150, and this hospitalization will be about $2200. Any little bit helps, even a share.

I truly appreciate you all. And if Clover knew how much people were helping us, he would say “thank you” too.
