September 7th, 2021 Greg was taken into emergency at San Antonio Hospital by his wife Lulu due to feeling lethargic, dazed, and a very bad headache. Hours later, after scans were done we were told that he had a large mass on the left side of his brain. The following day the doctors operated, but were only able to remove 80% of the tumor as the other 20% was bleeding and could have caused additional complications if removed. When Greg woke up after surgery, his journey to recovery began. Unfortunately, due to the surgery on his brain Greg was unable to walk, talk, eat, or swallow. He was placed on a feeding tube and was sedated to ease his pain post surgery. A few days after surgery we received the news that his tumor was cancer, and very aggressive. Throughout the next couple of weeks with the assistance of the nurses and therapists at San Antonio Hospital he slowly began to regain his strength, enough to walk and speak short phrases.
At the beginning of October, Greg was fortunate enough to be transferred to Casa Colina where the AMAZING staff, doctors, and therapists were able to help him progress even further. He was finally able to walk, talk, eat, and complete self care routines on his own. And on October 14th he was finally able to come home. In November he began radiation and chemo pills to try and slow the growth of the tumor - he did these treatments until December 31st, 2021.
January and February we were able to enjoy the time we had with Greg and he was able to visit his parents, go on a short trip to Vegas, and be surrounded by family and friends enjoying all the little moments he could. In March he went in for another scan to see the progression of his tumor and was met with bad news. The tumor had grown slightly, from .5 mm to .6mm, and that his next round of chemo would need to be a higher dosage. The oncologist tried to offer reassurance that this slight growth could’ve been a result of the chemo. It is now April 28th, 2022 and at 1:00am we had to call an ambulance to take Greg to the ER because he was not responding well and couldn’t move. After hours of waiting to hear from the doctor we were finally able to speak with a doctor about his condition. We were told that a new scan was done and they saw that the tumor has grown, now 1.5 cm, and there is significant swelling that is pushing down on his brain which will inevitably cause him to pass. The time frame we were given for his time left is anywhere from 4 days to a month. We are working with hospice to ensure that during his remaining time he will be as comfortable and pain free as can possible.
We are asking to please help us with any upcoming funeral expenses or end of life expenses we may encounter. Greg has been a loving husband, father, friend and person. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this extremely difficult process.
