Help Matt Beat Cancer
Matt Payne is a man who walks into your life and instantly makes the world a better place. He is married to one of the kindest souls to ever walk this earth. These two created Mariann, who is the bright star in their world. This family is one that truly is looked upon for the love they hold for one another. This year their world has been rocked.
Matthew has a condition called PKU (Phenylketonuria) Which is a rare but potentially serious inherited disorder.
Our bodies break down the protein in foods, such as meat and fish, into amino acids, which are the "building blocks" of protein. These amino acids are then used to make our own proteins. Any amino acids that are not needed are broken down further and removed from the body. People with PKU cannot break down the amino acid phenylalanine, which then builds up in their blood and brain. This can lead to brain damage.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/phenylketonuria/ Matt is currently taking Kuvan which is 27 pills a day, 810 pills a month plus he drinks a special powder twice a day. Matt also has to send his blood (that he draws) to Portland once a week for testing. I am sharing this because this is his life and it's expensive to continue with this regime to keep his PKU in line.
Matt not only battles with PKU but he has also been diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer. Matt and his family have met with his medical team to determine his treatment plan and he is headed to Linda Loma University for his consultation on August 30, 2021. This will then be at least a 2-month process of treatment, most likely radiation. While both Matt and Marilou will be in Linda Loma (11 hours from home) they will not be able to work during this time. They will have the cost of caring for their daughter and keeping their home PLUS their costs of treatment and a 2nd home while in Linda Loma.
I am sharing this to simply ask for you to lift this family up in prayer and support. If 1000 people donated $20 they would be able to focus on Matt and his treatment without the extra worry of the financial burden. The one writing this is a cancer survivor and I beg you to help this family by taking the burden off them so they can shift their mindset to Matt's healing.
This family needs to get back together and cheer their daughter on as she finishes her Senior year of high school. Let's help them do that!!! Thank you to our community for supporting The Payne Family.
