These are the words of Amr...
My name is Amr El Komy, an Egyptian writer and book designer recently accepted to the MA Fine Art: Printmaking program at UWE Bristol. I’ve been awarded a £5,000 scholarship toward my tuition, but I still need support to cover the remaining costs — tuition balance, visa, housing, and travel — to begin this journey in September.
Originally trained in architecture, I gradually shifted toward editorial design and publishing. I've worked with NGOs, publishers, and writers in Egypt, designing books and layouts while also writing and self-publishing my own novel. Now, I'm working on my second.
My passion lies not only in writing but in the material life of books — how they’re made, printed, and shared. This program brings together my design work and my growing interest in hands-on printmaking, helping me take steps toward founding a publishing practice focused on artist-made and independent books from the region.
This fundraiser will help me secure my place in the program and begin this chapter — from Cairo to Bristol — as an artist, student, and advocate for storytelling through books.
Any contribution, however small, is deeply appreciated. Thank you for believing in this with me.
P.S. The kid in the photo is my nephew : )
