Jacob's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
So many of you have been asking about a way to contribute to helping Jacob literally get back on his feet. We are not a family who asks for charity, so until now I have hesitated to set up any type of fundraiser. He is humbled by all the support he has received.

I am setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my son, Jacob Worch. He has been hospitalized for over three months and legal roadblocks are now becoming mounting bills for medical expenses, transportation, medical insurance deductibles, lost wages, housing costs, new furnishings, and medical equipment.

On November 9th, 2023, Jacob became another unfortunate innocent victim of a police chase involving a stolen vehicle. He was on his way back to work on his new motorcycle from taking a rare break, just a couple blocks down the road, when he was run down by the stolen vehicle driver. The driver of the stolen vehicle decided to evade police by going the wrong way in traffic, and even after hitting the motorcycle, continued to run from police. Jacob had only seconds to avoid the imminent head-on collision, but at the cost of his right leg. We are grateful that he is alive, thanks to the quick actions of firefighter/paramedics, and that he miraculously avoided neurologic injury. The day before his 24th birthday, while still in the hospital, is when he was told that his leg would be amputated. He will never be the same again.

The majority of funds will be used to cover out-of-pocket medical expenses, lost pay, and other incidentals. Jacob had to be moved out of his third story apartment into a more expensive ground floor apartment. His car needed to be modified with a left foot accelerator. Jacob lives and works over two hours from his family, and relies on only himself and friends for support. Due to the severe nature of his leg injury it will be several months or possibly years before he can walk with a prosthetic limb and be able to work to full capacity. Until this tragedy, Jacob was a very independent young man.

The funds you give will not be accepted lightly. Any funding beyond what is needed for his recovery will be donated to a charitable cause to benefit other trauma victims or amputees. Thank you!
