Fixing FCC Salter's House
Donation protected
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR VETERAN IN NEED!! BLUF - We have a VFW Life Member and active duty Navy Chief that has been battling brain cancer for almost 2 years now. He was recently transferred to White Sands, NM from Norfolk, VA and their house in Chesapeake needs some work done so that it can be sold. The family can only afford to make a couple of more payments on this house, since they now have 2 mortgages, and will lose this house if they can't sell it. Next Sunday, Aug 30th, I have an army of active duty Navy folks and Veterans of all branches and ages that are going to spend the day with me helping to make this house amazing! There will be groups of folks working on the house throughout the week, with the bulk being on Sunday.
The realtor has given me quite a laundry list of items that need to be completed to make this house sellable....from deck repairs, to pressure washing, to replacing doors, to painting, to deep cleaning, to adding "curb appeal".
I have plenty of warm bodies to perform the labor, but could use a little help funding supplies. We want to be able to replace 2 outside doors, replace the carpet, repair and stain the deck, plus fund all the paint, paint supplies, cleaning
supplies, and flowers and plants for the front of house. Any donation is greatly appreciated!!
Any funds donated that aren't used to purchase supplies will be given to the family.
Background info on FCC(SW) Nick Salter: This family has had a rough few years. 2 years ago, while Nick was on deployment onboard USS SAN JACINTO, and his wife and young daughter had moved back to NM while he was gone, the family paid a substantial amount of money to have the inside of the house completely remodeled. The contractor tore the house apart then left with all of their money and left them a house that was unliveable. They came back and started fixing the house and soon after found out Nick had brain cancer. He underwent specialized gamma radiation treatment and surgery. He recovered and then earlier this year more tumors were found. He underwent more treatment and surgery and was finally cleared to transfer to his final duty station, White Sands, NM, close to his hometown. Last week, Nick wasn't feeling well and went to the ER...yesterday his wife called me and said that they found more tumors and he will have to go through treatment again. She also told me their realtor had called and said that she probably couldn't sell the house in its current condition...and Erin, Nick's wife, said she doesn't have time to worry about the house since she has to take care of Nick and their 6 yr old daughter, but that they will lose the house in a few more months if it doesn't sell.
