This is Simon Peter. He is a sweet, smart, fun 16 year old. He isn't always the loudest at the party but he's always there with a smile and a willingness to help others. He loves to do what most 16 year olds do; video games, movies, hang with friends, be a part of his church and dream about getting his first car. Simon however didn't have the typical teenage summer. A few short weeks after celebrating his 16th birthday a mass was discovered in his brain. In a matter of minutes everything changed. He endured an intense 12 hour surgery to remove the mass and by God's grace it was ALL removed! After recovering from the surgery he and his family (mom, dad, sister and brother) headed to Philidelphia for him to get the best radiation treatment out there. They spent 6 long weeks there away from family and now they are home! Simon is getting a small break from treatment before he begins a long journey of chemo therapy.
If you have ever met Simon or any one in his family then you have been BLESSED. They are some of the most selfless and giving people that have ever existed on the face of the earth, seriously. Even while going through some really rough patches with treatment and surgery, doctors and nurses continually would comment on how kind and polite Simon was. They were suprised because most people enduring what he was generally weren't that way and rightly so, its a tough road. They would even inquire as to how a 16 year old boy could be so kind in those situations. Well that was easy to answer.... Its because he has Christ in him. Through everything happening to him, Simon was blessing others simple by showing the love of Christ so much that it caught peoples attention and they would want to know what was different about him. What an incredible testimony for an incredibly kid. And really an incredibly family.
Now its our turn. We want to bless Simon and his family in a big way because they have blessed all of us in a big way. So here is our opprtunity. They still have a long journey ahead and we fully trust God to carry them through it. This campaign is just simply a way for those of us that know them personally or even those of us who don't but have been touched by thier story to say thank you. Thank you for always blessing and loving those around you, thank you for giving tirelessly to the community you live in, thank you for putting your trust in God and being an example to the rest of us, and thank you for your faith in dark times which is strengthening all of those around you. Any donation made goes directly to the family for whatever they may need. And to make it even more fun any donation over $30 will recieve a tshirt. The tshirt design was drawn by cincy's own Arian Armstrong. The rock represents Simon (his name is even hidden in the rock) and the heart shadow it casts represent exactly what Simon and his family are doing through his journey. Casting God's love to everyone around them. We are also going to be using the hashtag #rocksforsimon to build some awarenes through social media. If at any point you see something that makes you think of Simon and take a picture of it or are wearing your tshirt in support or want to offer any encouragment; post it and use the hashtag. That way whenever Simon wants he can click on it and be encouraged by what others are posting.
The name Simon means "he has heard" and we know and believe God has heard and is hearing every prayer being lifted for our Simon, so keep praying. Peter means "rock" and that is exactly what our Simon is being. His faith is not shaken and the testimony he is holding is solid. God is using our Simon Peter in a mightly way to draw others closer to him and his saving grace.
** If you donate over $30 and would like a tshirt please be sure to contact us through this page with your tshirt size and shipping address. Shirts will be shipped out every friday.
