YIP14 Learning Placements!

Donation protected

Hello
Wonderful people!
At the start of the school year 35 yippies gathered in Ytterjärna, Sweden to participate in YIP, a social entrepreneurship program that grows positive social change makers out of the next generation. As part of this program we not only learn about the global challenges the world faces today, but set out to plant and grow ideas to help create positive change.

As part of this learning process, all our yippies will set out on March 16th to travel to communities all over the world to contribute and learn from various amazing organizations dedicated to creating a better world through social, agricultural and environmental change.
As in every YIP year, yippies are required to raise money for travel and accommodation expenses, and this year that fundraising goal has turned into 8500 Euros!

In addition to this page, we are also working hard to fundraise using hand-made postcards, bake sales, arts and craft sales, musical performances, a running event, storytelling evenings ect.

If anyone feels called to help us in our journey to create positive change in the world we would be so grateful for any contributions, big or small!

More updates will follow!

Burn bright!

Leaning Placement Locations:

Chicago - Elderberries 3Fold Cafe

Elderberries and Circles for a Renewal of Culture are focused on creating curative spaces in urban communities, with art, music, peer to peer conversations and empowering young people to the Yes! They are also community activists who seek to be a part of the front line work in racism, poverty, mental health and adult education. Part of the whole is an invitation to transform the patterns they recognize together as unhealthy for oneself and community. Yippies there will work on taking Initiative , creating out of nothing, organizing a
grassroots movement, and creating safety and healthy boundaries for oneself and for the community.

Zimbabwe - Kafunda Village

Kufunda is an eco-village and a learning village that works with rural communities in Zimbabwe, supporting them in returning to a sense of wealth and wisdom in practical ways. Their learning of working with what they have has been expressed through eco-building, working with herbs and natural foods, biodynamic farming, and a Waldorf Inspired school. Among other things, yippies will be working in the Waldorf school, gardening in community vegetable beds, walking around in community outreach, and learning about traditional herbal medicine.

Lithuania - Movement Vilnius

Movement Vilnius (MOVI) is a movement school born of the need to rethink physical culture. They support and promote the idea of universal movement culture by providing the tools, methods and daily practices necessary for the realization of this idea. The focus of the learning placement is about physical movement/literacy as a way to work with health, communication and expression as human beings. They are a small team who created the concept and organization, and so their way of working is based on non-linear power structures and integrates the concept of apprenticeship and working with others. Yippies there will take various workshops and classes exploring movement, all in Lithuanian!

Brazil - Dream Factory

Dream Factory is a support organization that works as a platform for social and environmental causes of impact and dreams. It was created in 2013 to guarantee and give back to people the right to dream and in 2016 it was formalized as a non-profit civil society organization , to strengthen the CULTURE OF WELL-BEING and DREAMING, in the face of individual and collective hopelessness and
loneliness. Yippies here will be working with people, communities and neighbourhoods to take initiative to change lives and realize dreams.

Uttarakhand, India - Navdanya

Navdanya’s learning centre is dedicated to education for sustainable living and earth citizenship which is located at Navdanya Biodiversity Conservation Farm in Doon Valley, Uttarakhand, nestled between the Ganga and the Yamuna, the Shivalik and Himalayan mountain ranges. Navdanya has created a biodiversity sanctuary for birds, butterflies, insects and soil microorganisms, through saving
more than 1500 varieties of seeds and trees. Here, nature in its diversity and dynamism is the highest teacher. We draw inspiration from India’s ancient Aranya Sanskruti – of learning from nature and forests for how to live as Vasudhaiva Kutumbukam (The Earth
Family). Yippies here will be saving/storing seeds, harvesting, cooking, and cleaning food from the gardens and preserving knowledge.

Portugal - Waking Life

Waking Life sprouted from a common dream of a group of friends to build a community, in a sunny spot on the globe, to plant ideas and harvest tangible, alternative ways of living, learning, loving. It is slowly blooming into a space for artistic experimentation, spirited self-expression and collective imagineering of the type of society we could cultivate if there was freedom to diverge from default reality.
Speaking of default reality, on the admin side of things, Waking Life is a not-for-profit association registered in Portugal, largely operating on a voluntary basis. While our yearly gathering in August has been the cornerstone project to date, Waking Life is more than the festival — it’s a multidimensional community project, with budding cultural, countercultural and agricultural initiatives. Yippies will be helping in regenerative agriculture projects, (potentially) aid in planning an august festival, and bringing their own project to work on.

Mumbai, India - Youth Innovators Foundation (YIF)

YIF works with the indigenous children living in the forest area of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and with the children from the
neighboring slums of Mumbai. While they respect that karma and destiny play a part in the life circumstances of the children, the idea that every individuality can create new choices and possibilities lies at the heart of YIF’s advocacy. These learning centers are built because YIF believes that if children can learn in a safe and integrated environment, they can truly actively participate in
shaping their lives, while in turn helping the world heal. Yippies here will be travelling on a learning journey to share their skills and plant trees.

Kosovo - The Ideas Partnership (TIP)

The Ideas Partnership (founded in 2009) is an NGO that works with partner organizations, local institutions and volunteers in supporting the people of Kosovo in protecting their unique cultural heritage, nurture their environment and educate a new generation of citizens. A lot of our activity depends on our very splendid volunteers - people from Kosovo, or people just passing through who've found
an excuse to stay for a while. A lot of the ideas are theirs, and a lot of the hard work. Here yippies will help in the kindergarten, read with children and help around the community.

Nepal - Shanti Lepra Hilfe

Shanti started in 1992 as a humanitarian organization taking care of ostracized Leprosy patients, who were thrown out from their villages out of fear of their disease . By now Shanti comprises of around 800 people including orphans, children and adults with handicaps/special needs or from very poor families, senior citizens, and former leprosy patients ( all who are non- infectious). Anyone at Shanti is invited to learn an occupation in the various workshops or on our two vegetable farms, or the coffee shop and thus contribute to our mutual well being. Due to the present hunger crisis in Nepal Shanti people are active in grinding a special nutritious porridge and packing it , which is distributed to a few hundred children in need, and others are cooking meals for families in slums, tailors are making upcycle clothes for needy families, Palette furniture is being produced for upcycle houses, built from glass bottles and used bricks, walls are painted with ethnic pictures. Shanti‘s medical team organizes free Health Camps in Rural areas for poor people, who cannot afford medical help, the doctor, the dentist and physiotherapist also offer free services in our Shanti clinic. In our Waldorf inspired school children of the patients and the Shanti hostel learn for free ( schools normally cost money in Nepal)The same goes for our Kindergarten. The yippies here will learn and help in the kindergarten, in the health clinic and in various recycling programs.
