We have started this online fundraising effort as part of the DFW community relief initiative for flood victims in Serbia, Bosnia, and Republika Srpska. We appeal to our friends and neighbors in Texas and USA to support us in raising funds to aid people who have lost everything due to the most catastrophic floods in 120 years. Serbian church in Irving, TX is raising funds as well and collection of help here will be distributed through the church as aid to the victims of floods.
Serbia has declared a state of emergency on May 15th due to unprecedented flooding. More than four months average of rain fell in just three days causing rivers to rise to record levels and the rain is still falling, ravaging cities and leaving people without home, food or water. Whole towns and villages are evacuated along the rivers of Kolubara, Jasenica, Great Morava, Drina, Ub, Jadar, Tamnava, Belica, Mlava and Pek and there is still a threat from the Sava River and the Danube River, where the water levels are elevated by the rising waters in Bosnia and Croatia. This would be the worst natural disaster in region’s history. Two million people in Serbia and Bosnia are being affected by this tragedy and help from the international community is urgently needed in all forms.
We are asking you from the heart, if you can help people of Serbia and Bosnia in this challenging moment and to donate whatever you can to this fund. All the donations would go directly to Serbian Orthodox Church in Irving.
From weather.com :
"A strong disturbance in the jet stream closed off into a swirling, stuck upper-level low near the Balkans, instead of sweeping through," said weather.com senior meteorologist Jon Erdman. "The result is persistent, flooding rainfall."
